Richard Lindner (1901-1978) was a German-American painter born in Germany to an American mother. He studied at the Arts and Crafts School and the Academy of Fine Arts starting in 1940. In 1941, he moved to the U.S. and worked as an illustrator while connecting with other German emigrants like Albert Einstein and Marlene Dietrich. His early paintings featured sexual symbolism, earning him several awards. Lindner’s unique art is full of urban energy, and he began his career as an artist at age 40 in New York.
