Toulouse Lautrec

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864 -1901) was from an aristocratic french family, a great painter, lithographer, and draftsman. He broke both legs in childhood, and he turned to drawing and painting. In 1882 he began studying art in Paris, where he met Van Gogh and Degas. In 1889, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and in Brussels. He is a revolutionary artist who truly captured the Parisian nightlife of the Montmartre where he lived, He painted quickly and frequently in thinned oil paint on unprimed cardboard.
